For several years now, Arkema is strongly engaged in a process to improve its CSR performance, with the objective of integrating sustainability in collaboration with its stakeholders. The Group’s CSR approach is regularly assessed by extra-financial rating agencies. The results are especially of interest to the investors and customers.
These ratings confirm the adequacy of Arkema’s CSR approach and enable Arkema to rank among the best performing companies in its sector.
SAM & DJSI
The SAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) is an annual evaluation of companies’ sustainability practices. Each year over 7,300 companies around the world are assessed. The SAM CSA focuses on criteria that are both industry-specific and financially material, and has been doing so since 1999.
In 2020, Arkema joined the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World and Europe. These indices include the top performing companies in terms of CSR based on the ratings of the Standard & Poor's SAM non-financial questionnaire.
The composition of Dow Jones sustainability indices is determined once a year on the basis of stringent environmental, social and governance criteria. Only the top 10% of the world's best companies assessed in each sector are included in the DJSI World, while the top 20% of the best companies headquartered in Europe are included in the DJSI Europe.
In 2020, Arkema joined the indices* in the following ranks:
- 6th chemical company in the DJSI World,
- 2nd chemical company of the DJSI Europe
*Among 114 assessed companies in the “Chemicals” category.
EcoVadis assesses the social and environmental performance in the supply chains framework.
Four themes are covered:
- Labor and human rights
- Business ethics
- Sustainable procurement
Arkema has received a “Gold rating” since 2015.
The Group ranks among the 1% top performing companies in terms of CSR.
CDP, an international non-profit organization which analyzes the integration of the environmental dimension in the strategies of over 8 000 companies around the world, has assessed Arkema in the following two major areas:
- Climate change: Arkema received a “A -“ rating in 2020.
- Water management: Arkema received a “B” rating in 2020.
MSCI, extra-financial rating agency, has assigned an « A » rating to Arkema since 2017.
Since 2015, Arkema is a constituent of the Euronext Vigeo-Eiris Eurozone 120 and Euronext Vigeo-Eiris Europe 120 indexes, which gather the top 120 publicly traded companies in terms of corporate responsibility in the Euro area and in Europe, according to the rating agency's criteria.
Vigeo-Eiris uses environment, community involvement, business behaviour, human rights, governance and human resources criteria to establish the CSR performance rating of the assessed companies.
Created by the global index company FTSE, FTSE4Good is an equity index series that is designed to facilitate investment in companies that meet globally recognised corporate responsibility standards.
Hence, the FTSE4Good rating helps the approaches of :
- Social responsible investment
- Identification of socially responsible companies
- Assessment of a company's extra-financial performance
- Benchmarking of a responsible investment portfolio performance
