Wide Selection of Ionic Liquids

Proionic’s imidazolium-based ionic liquids, made via the patented CBILS® process, stand out for their purity (halide-free <5 ppm) and low water content (<10 ppm). They also offer high batch consistency, making large-scale production easy.

Proionic provides standard ionic liquids like EMIM FSI, EMIM BF4, EMIM OOc, and EMIM OAc, with options for custom cation-anion combinations. They also offer ionic liquids based on Pyrrolidinium, Phosphonium, Ammonium, and Cholinium cations. These are ideal for industries like electrochemistry, lubrication, and biomass processing, maintaining the same quality as imidazolium-based versions.

Ionic Liquids Across Industries

Cellulose-Based Fiber Industry

Ionic liquids unlock nature’s building blocks, gently dissolving them without altering their natural structure. This allows the creation of new bio-based materials. Proionic has worked with cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, silk, chitin, and chitosan. Unlike traditional fiber processes (e.g., Viscose), this method uses no toxic chemicals, making the production of cellulosic filaments more sustainable. These filaments can even be recycled.

Biomass Valorization

Proionic’s HIPE-REC® technology transforms biomass waste into valuable products like biofuels, paper, microbeads, carbon fibers, and cosmetic additives. Lignin and cellulose fractions are processed into endless cellulosic filaments and other materials.

Cooling Medium

Proionic’s ionic liquids are a safe, non-toxic alternative to water as cooling mediums. Unlike water, they don’t react explosively with liquid metals. Produced via the CBILS® process, these ionic liquids are chlorine-free, non-corrosive, and stable up to 200°C. This improves efficiency and allows longer processing times.

Electrolytes

Ionic liquids are the perfect choice for safer, more sustainable electrolytes with enhanced performance. Their unique properties make them ideal for batteries and supercapacitors. These advantages include:

  • high electrochemical stability
  • stable from 0-4 V
  • high conductivity
  • negligibile vapor pressure & flammability
  • high thermal stability (up to 300-400°C)
  • tunable solvation properties
  • broad liquid range
  • compatibility with various electrode materials
  • environmental compatibility
  • high tunability of properties by structural variations and usage of IL-containing formulations

They perform exceptionally well in supercapacitors and Liquid or Gel Polymer Electrolytes.
