Thanks to the successful commissioning of a new innovative process, the Lacq/Mourenx site will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 28%. The emissions reduction plan to which Arkema is committed has thus taken another step forward.

Arkema's Lacq/Mourenx (Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France) platform specializes in the chemistry of specialty sulfur derivatives and has a unit whose manufacturing process produces nitrogen oxides and nitrous oxide.

The evolution of the process at this installation considerably reduces these emissions and makes it possible to respond to the need to move towards ever more environmentally friendly processes and products.

"This is a great improvement for the site. In addition to reducing nitrogen oxide emissions and the carbon impact, this project has made it possible to eliminate an orange-colored plume, which was a source of concern for residents" says Bertrand LEROUX, Director of the Lacq/Mourenx site.
The technology was developed in collaboration with two French suppliers, Prossergy and Enercat, specialists in the treatment of industrial emissions. It is distinguished by its robustness and its ability to simultaneously eliminate nitrogen oxide and nitrous oxide emissions.

In line with the objectives of the Group's climate plan to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 46% between 2019 and 2030, the installation has been in operation since the end of November 2022 and is working in line with expectations.

Launched in 2020 and completed by the end of 2022, the treatment plant project cost €3.6 million and was financed up to 32% by the French Government as part of the stimulus plan operated by ADEME.
