But they are hard to recycle, at a time when end-of-life concerns are becoming a major issue. Polystrand^® products are continuous fiber-reinforced tapes and prepregs made of thermoplastic polymers. These ready-to-use polyamides, fluoropolymer (PVDF) and polypropylenes weigh 30% less than aluminum but provide similar rigidity and impact resistance. These lightweight composites are used in structural parts to make airplane cargo containers and truck panels and to reinforce the front ends of cars.

Kepstan^® PEKK (polyether ketone ketone) polymer offers exceptional properties suited to the extreme demands of aircraft engines. It boasts excellent resistance to chemical damage and abrasion and can withstand continuous high temperatures above 200°C. Reinforced with carbon fi bers, it is used to make light, rigid composites for structural and fuselage parts, replacing metal for about half the weight.
