Arkema Coating Resins and coating additives
  • Do we still necessarily need solvent-borne Technology for HIGH PERFORMANCE WOOD COATINGS?

From the different worldwide Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) reduction regulation, ecolabels, consumers pressure,… the switch from solvent-borne to waterborne paints, is already well in place for some applications. However, for high quality wood coatings such as for trim, cladding, wood stains there is still a technical challenge to recover all the solvent-borne properties.
Today we will try to answer to the question: Do we still necessarily need solvent-borne technology for high performance wood coatings? Alkyd emulsion, functionalized or not, are a key technology for some interior or exterior applications. Therefore, during this presentation, we will highlight the development of new modified emulsions, isocyanate and triethylamine free, designed for high performance wood coatings. With this new range, partly bio based, keeping the standard alkyd emulsion attributes, new performances such as higher hardness development, better whiteness, excellent blocking resistance and durability can be demonstrated.

Arkema Coating Resins and coating additives
  • PLADS - Clearstrength(R) XT100

For decades, formulators in need of improved toughness for thermoset systems have utilized methacrylate-butadiene-styrene (MBS) core-shell modifiers optimized for thermoplastic toughening. Advances in the understanding of liquid resin dispersion has led to innovation and development of new MBS core-shell tougheners specifically designed for formulators of structural adhesives and high performance composite materials. During this webinar, ARKEMA will present the latest innovation in MBS core-shell chemistry. Clearstrength® XT100 offers improved ease of dispersion and processing efficiency in common thermoset resin systems (e.g. methacrylates, epoxy, and others) while providing excellent toughening performance and crack propagation resistance in extreme conditions demanded by new structural adhesive and composite material applications. The presentation will focus on the limited effect on formulation viscosity and primary particle dispersion while demonstrating how mechanical properties can be significantly improved using ARKEMA’s newest, patented technology.
