Successful launch of CECA’s Siliporite® molecular sieve bead production at its Inowroclaw plant, Poland

- Press release
CECA, Arkema’s Specialty Chemicals business unit, announces that its new Inowroclaw plant, Poland, has begun industrial production of Siliporite® molecular sieve beads for the double glazing industry.

With an overall 30 % increase in its molecular sieve granulation capacity, shared between the Inowroclaw plant, Poland, and the Honfleur plant, France, CECA can now fulfill the strong growth of the double glazing market, in particular in Eastern Europe.
" By boosting its production resources dedicated to the double glazing market, CECA demonstrates its commitment to remaining a major player in the market. The location of our Polish facility is a real asset in terms of responsiveness and service to our customers in Eastern European countries " explains Christophe Villain, Chief Executive Officer of CECA.
Announced in April 2006, the investment project was completed on schedule. The production plant is now operational, and its products are in specification.
Molecular sieves in double glazing:
Double glazing consists of two glass panes separated by a layer of air, called « air space ». The benefits of double glazing are to provide a thermal and acoustic barrier, the air space acting as a good insulator. Double glazing therefore helps minimise the « cold wall effect », condensation in winter, and heat losses. In practice, the air space is sometimes filled with an inert gas like argon or krypton. The function of molecular sieve (synthetic zeolithe) beads is to trap the water locked in with the gas to prevent condensation during the manufacture of the double glazing and throughout its lifetime.

CECA’s Siliporite® molecular sieves:
With its range of Siliporite® synthetic zeolithes which offer remarkable adsorption, selectivity and durability properties, CECA is one of the world’s leading producers of molecular sieves. Manufactured in Honfleur (Calvados, France) and Inowroclaw (Poland), these aluminosilicates have applications in a variety of sectors, from double glazing in the construction sector, to the drying of natural gas, and the separation of air for the production of medical grade oxygen.

CECA, an Arkema Group subsidiary, is a world player in Specialty Chemicals. CECA constantly strives to improve its customers’ performance by creating and developing adsorbents, chemical intermediates, and additives. CECA operates an extensive network of industrial facilities in Europe, together with two research centres (GRL and CRRA) dedicated to Customer innovation.

A global chemical player, Arkema consists of 3 coherent and related business segments: Vinyl Products, Industrial Chemicals, and Performance Products. Present in over 40 countries with 17,000 employees, Arkema achieved sales of 5.7 billion euros in 2006. With its 6 research centers in France, the United States and Japan, and internationally recognized brands, Arkema holds leadership positions in its principal markets.
