The King of Prussia site has been home to Arkema Inc.'s Research Center since 1992. The Arkema campus resides on more than 40 acres within a short distance of major highways for the Philadelphia area and a short drive to the Philadelphia International airport. The occupants include the research teams for many of the business units within Arkema Inc. that are engaged in research activities that focus not only on regional needs in the Americas but are involved in research programs that have a global signiﬁcance as well.
Our research and product development activities in King of Prussia vary from the fundamental synthesis of chemicals and chemical intermediates to the development of new polymers and engineered polymer blends to address the ever-changing needs of the diverse markets and customers we serve. It is also home to world-class, leading-edge analytical capabilities. In addition to the more common analytical techniques, we also have extensive polymer characterization laboratories, including techniques and methods not commonly found in industrial research labs. The site is also a home base for our data science and modeling team who, as part of our global organized efforts, support our digitalization efforts in the Americas.
The site also includes a pilot facility for scale-up of Arkema products and processes as well as commercial-scale polymer processing equipment to simulate the customer’s use of our polymers.

Safety culture at King of Prussia
Safety is extremely important at Arkema. The R&D facility is proud to have a rolling 12-month Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) of zero.
The R&D group has logged nearly 1,400,000 man-hours without an Arkema recordable injury or OSHA lost-time injury. The last OSHA lost-time recordable for R&D was more than four years ago. Our safety culture is built on a strong foundation of hazard recognition and mitigation and is reinforced through ongoing training, observation, and adoption of best practices.
