Arkema recently kicked off its annual Science Teacher Program at sites throughout the United States.

The program brings Arkema scientists and engineers together with local educators to provide new classroom resources in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

Participating sites this year include King of Prussia and West Chester in Pennsylvania; Clear Lake and Houston in Texas; Calvert City in Kentucky; and Axis in Alabama. More than 25 teachers from grades three through six will partake in the program.

At each site, Arkema mentors will lead teachers, both virtually and in-person, through hands-on lessons using a STEM classroom kit that explores themes such as “Plant and Animal Structures,” “Machines at Work and Play” and “Space Systems Exploration.” All kits used in the program meet national science education standards and provide teachers with eight weeks of science curriculum for the upcoming school year.

Participating teachers also receive a donation to purchase additional science experiment supplies for their classrooms, as well as the mentoring guidance of Arkema scientists throughout the school year.

“We’re proud to support our local teachers by providing engaging, fun STEM resources to share with their students,” said Catherine Smith, Ph.D., research scientist at Arkema. “We hope to inspire more young people to pursue careers in STEM through this important program.”

Since 1996, the award-winning Arkema Science Teacher Program has benefitted hundreds of teachers and thousands of students. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program, Arkema is committed to giving back to the communities in which it operates, and the Science Teacher Program is a key program in the United States.
