Ségolène Royal (French Minister for Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy) launched the “Arche de Noé Climat” [Climate Noah’s Ark] operation in partnership with Arkema, official supplier of the material that has given shape to the 140 animal representations, over 2m high, which will then travel across France.
To mark the 21st Conference of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP 21), to be held in Paris from 30 November to 11 December 2015, Arkema has joined forces with the operation ”Arche de Noé Climat” launched by Ségolène Royal, and devised by street artist Gad Weil.
Inaugurated on 3 September, the operation have been presented to the public at the Journées du patrimoine [Heritage Days] on 19 and 20 September.
Just like the original Noah’s Ark, the 140 animals boarded a craft and on 19 September sail through Paris on 2 barges on the river Seine, parading near key monuments and bridges. An opportunity for the general public to discover and get closer to these artworks made from ALTUGLAS®, Arkema’s PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate). The animals have been placed on show on the "Esplanade des Invalides" throughout 20 September before spending a week in the “Jardin des Plantes”.
Accessible to the public, the "Esplanade des Invalides" and the “Jardin des Plantes” are the first stage of a long journey across France from 27 September to 20 November, when the animals will make their way back to Paris at the heart of the COP21 conference in Le Bourget end of November.
As true ambassadors of climate to the people of France, the animals will be collecting ideas and testimonies on their long journey.
