Forane® 454B (R-454B)
Forane® 454B (R-454B) is a low GWP, A2L (mildly flammable), HFO replacement for R-410A in new air conditioning or heat pump applications. Its pressures and temperatures match closely those of R-410A.

Forane® 454B (R-454B) is a low GWP replacement for R-410A.
Forane® 454B (R-454B) is a blend of hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) R-1234yf and hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) R-32 designed to meet the demand for lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerant technology to replace legacy refrigerants like R-410A.
Forane® 454B (R-454B) and Forane® 32 are the only replacements for R-410A that meet the <700 GWP requirements for regulations like the United States' AIM Act.
Where can Forane® 454B (R-454B) be used?
Forane® 454B (R-454B) can be used in:
- Residential and light commercial air conditioners (AC) and heat pumps
- Window units and portable AC
- Mini-split, multi-split and ducted-split units
- Packaged terminal air conditioners (PTACs)
- Direct expansion (DX) and central fugal chillers
What are the benefits of Forane® 454B (R-454B)?
Forane® 454B (R-454B) closely matches the thermodynamic properties of R-410A.
This makes it possible to use many of the same, or very similar, components that were used in R-410A systems.
The use of Forane® 454B (R-454B), an A2L or mildly flammable refrigerant, may necessitate the adoption of features such as leak detection, use of non-sparking controls and switches and other changes depending on the size of the charge, the specific application and local codes.
- Forane® R-454B has an low GWP of 466 - a 78% reduction compared to R-410A.
- Forane® R-454B has no ozone depletion potential (ODP).
- Forane® R-454B has low toxicity.
- Forane® R-454B is an A2L, meaning it's mildly flammable and its flammability is close to that of an A1 refrigerant.
Forane® R-454B is not a a retrofit and should not be used in R-410A equipment.
