Introduced in 1965, Kynar® PVDF resin technology is known within the architectural community as one of the world’s most weatherable resins for creating a coating system with an extraordinary capability to retain color and gloss. Today, this breakthrough fluoropolymer chemistry provides billions of square feet of protection against weathering, aging and pollution on commercial, industrial, institutional and residential buildings around the globe.
Kynar 500® FSF® resin is a special grade of PVDF resin in long-life coatings for aluminum, galvanized steel and aluminized steel. It provides metal roofing and siding, window and door frames, and other metal trim and components with superb mildew resistance, excellent dirt shedding and extreme weatherability. This next-generation Kynar 500® resin technology exceeds the high-performance exterior AAMA 2605 specification for resistance to humidity, color change, chalk, gloss loss and chemicals. The product also can contribute to LEED® credits, as it is produced using a patented fluorosurfactant-free process.
Kynar Aquatec® latex can be used to produce ultra-durable water-based coatings with VOC levels below 100 grams/liter and with the long-lasting durability and color-retention characteristics of Kynar 500® resin-based coatings. Given their excellent weatherability, outstanding water repellency and exceptional resistance to dirt pickup and biological growth, Kynar Aquatec® resin-based coatings offer a high-performance, long-term solution for metal restoration and repair projects, as well as a wide variety of other applications.
In addition to exhibiting the outstanding performance properties of Kynar 500® FSF® resins and Kynar Aquatec® latex, Arkema also will be presenting its full line of Bostik “smart adhesives” solutions for a wide variety of metal construction applications. These high-performance products adhere to Kynar® resin-based coatings, are hurricane-strong (Miami-Dade County hurricane-approved) and come with a best-in-class warranty.
As a platinum sponsor of the METALCON 25th Anniversary Celebration, Arkema also will be celebrating 50 years of Kynar 500® PVDF resin throughout the show. Stop by the Arkema exhibit (booth 500) to help us celebrate 50 years of sustainable, long-lasting coatings with Kynar 500® PVDF resin. A commemorative video will take visitors through the past 50 years of remarkably durable finishes protecting aluminum, galvanized steel and aluminized steel building components against blistering heat, humidity, pollution, acid rain, corrosive salt and abrasion for decades of useful life. Arkema also will have on display the Kynar 500® resin “crown jewels”— the original Kynar 500® South Florida exposure panels from the mid-1960s.
