Arkema’s Technical Polymers business has published new Guide Specifications on its field-applied
fluoropolymer coatings for cool roof and façade restoration applications. The two guide documents
are prepared according to the Construction Specifier Institute’s (CSI) SectionFormat® to make selection
and specification of high-performance Kynar Aquatec® PVDF emulsion–based architectural coatings
easier.
Kynar Aquatec® PVDF emulsions are used to make premium water-based architectural coatings. Coatings formulated with these emulsions provide the same long-lasting durability and extreme weatherability properties as Kynar 500® resin-based coatings in an easy-to-apply waterborne form. They resist dirt and mildew accumulation, provide excellent cool roofing properties, and can be applied to a variety of substrates, including metals, plastics, wood, concrete, masonry, fiber cement, stucco, textiles, and previously painted surfaces.
The new Guide Specifications cover protocols on field-applied fluoropolymer coatings for cool roof and façade restoration. Each 14-page guide is divided into the CSI three-part format and written in concise language to facilitate the evaluation of coating systems for meeting a project’s specifications and design goals.
The first section details the selection of the appropriate coating system based on industry-specific testing and performance criteria as specified by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) International, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®), and other standards organizations. A second section provides information on sustainable design, application and performance of individual products manufactured by licensed providers of Kynar Aquatec® emulsion based high-performance coating technologies. The final section reviews application best practices for Kynar Aquatec® emulsion based field-applied coatings, including visual inspection, surface preparation, quality control, and cleaning.
“These new Guide Specifications on field-applied fluoropolymer coatings offer specifiable differences that contribute to a cool roof or metal restoration project’s long life, durability, and sustainability,” said Vince Casmirri, Regional Marketing Manager for Technical Polymers at Arkema Inc. “With a broad portfolio of Kynar Aquatec® technologies, backed by our technical support teams, Arkema is strongly positioned to help specifiers select the best architectural coating solution for their specific projects.”
