Our history

Arkema (formerly Atofina), first established its presence in the Middle East by opening a Representative Office in 2001 in Cairo, Egypt. In 2005, Arkema started its first bulk storage facility in the Jebel Ali free zone for its DMDS products to meet the strong growth demand in the region. In 2008, Arkema opened in Cairo a Sales Office for Oilfield Chemicals.

In 2011, Arkema moved to Dubai to get closer to its customers, by establishing an Arkema France Branch Office in the JLT Free zone. In 2014, Arkema invested in a state of the art factory for Oilfield Chemicals in Dammam on the east coast of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In 2015, Arkema acquired Bostik, a global leader for adhesives, followed by Den Braven B.V, specialized in the production of construction adhesives in late 2016. The integration of Bostik within the Group has allowed the region to welcome Bostik Egypt for its Non-Woven Business, and Bostik in UAE (ex Den Braven Middle East) for the construction adhesives business. In 2018, Den Braven Middle East DMCC and Arkema France Branch Office, two Dubai based entities merged to form Arkema Middle East DMCC, thus becoming the regional Headquarter of Arkema Group operations in the region.

In early 2019, Arkema Middle East DMCC inaugurated its new offices in Dubai UAE, in the presence of Madame the French General Consul in Dubai. During 2019, following the acquisition of Arrmaz, Arkema has reinforced its presence in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia adding a new plant located in Al Jalamid, primarily for the production of specialty chemicals to support the growth of the Saudi phosphate industry.

The key Business Units represented today in the region are Thiochemicals, Surfactants & Additives, Molecular Sieves, Functional Additives, Coating Solutions, Technical Polymers, Fluorochemicals, along with Bostik’s Construction & Consumer (C&C), Non-Woven and Advanced Packaging Adhesives divisions.
