How did you get to your current position?
After an initial internship in a recruitment firm, I wanted to continue my studies through a work-study program at a business school. So, I did my apprentice contract in Arkema in the recruitment team at the headquarters. I spent six months at an Arkema location in Shanghai, China, before being hired as a career manager and staff administration manager. In 2014, I went to CECA, an Arkema subsidiary, in the role of plant HR manager, in Feuchy.
What is your job about?
My role is to implement the company's HR policy to ensure the optimum operation of the plant and the development of employees' skills. My main responsibilities are recruiting employees, temps, and interns at the plant and managing their careers. In addition to that, I have to develop the training plan, supervise payroll and staff administration, and manage internal communication and relations with the social partners.
What do you like about your job?
It's a fascinating job, and there is nothing routine about it. Being a HR manager puts you at the heart of the plant and its organization. It is a job with a very interesting strategic aspect and very diverse assignments.
What are your qualities in relation to your job?
I think I am organized and calm, which helps in some situations that can be a bit stressful. The role of a HR manager requires quick responses to complex situations.
What about your career opportunities?
The Arkema Group has a lot of different plants. That means you can move to a position as HR manager at another site, or with a subsidiary to learn new specific aspects and problems to do with HR. There are also many avenues to HR positions at the headquarters or in our shared services center.
What do you like about Arkema?
I particularly like the trust that Arkema puts in young people. The company listens to their ideas and gives them responsibilities very quickly. Some of my friends were surprised that Arkema made me a human resources manager at my tender age!
Is there a particular memory from your job that stands out?
Since 2013, Arkema has been sponsoring the Lalou Roucayrol trimaran. As part of that, I was able to attend the start of the Route du Rhum sailing race in November 2014! We were on the water to watch the teams set off from St Malo. That is a great memory!
Is there anything about yourself that you would like to share?
Since my time in Arkema China in 2012, I've really fallen in love with Asia! I've been back three times; to Burma, Laos, and back to China!
