What has been your career path?
I got a vocational studies certificate and then a vocational diploma in the area of process industry. I then obtained an advanced technician's certificate in technical physics for industry and laboratories. I started working as a temp in the agri-foodstuffs industry, before joining Arkema on a work-study program to earn my operator's certificate. I was hired on a permanent contract in November 2015, as an environmental operator at the biological water treatment station in Carling.
What is your job about?
I use a digital control system in the control room to look after the operation of the wastewater treatment station. I also go outside to perform maintenance if necessary.
What is your typical working day like?
It is up to me to look after the running and set-up of the station and equipment, so my day-to-day work consists of maintenance operations outside and doing the rounds to test the controls and do analytical checks (pH, sludge volume index, sludge blankets, etc.). Each day is different and the maintenance operations by external contractors are never the same.
What do you like about your job?
What I like is the fact that I am sometimes able to make decisions alone to make sure the station functions correctly!
What skills does your job require?
You have to be autonomous in this job. You also need to be thorough, and to know how to communicate with your colleagues and management.
What do you like about Arkema?
I like the work and the good relationships between colleagues. Also, the company has had faith in me and I have been able to progress in my career. I was hired after completing the training for my operator's certificate.
One of your qualities and one flaw?
My main quality is determination and my flaw is that I'm a perfectionist.
Do you live by a motto?
Never give up.
