Rilsan® Active is a polyamide 11 powder coating with added surface protection against bacterial growth. Rilsan® coating systems are used for metal coating because of their excellent chemical and mechanical properties. A novel property has been added, based on the innovative Sanitized® Silver technology from the company Sanitized AG of Switzerland. It affords efficient and durable protection of the surface from bacterial growth. Tests in accordance with Standard JIS Z 2801-2000 have shown that Rilsan® Active coatings help reduce bacterial population by over 99.9%. Rilsan® Active also features the outstanding mechanical properties and comprehensive ageing resistance of standard Rilsan® grades, thereby significantly extending the life of metal parts.

Markets and applications

Rilsan® Active appears to be a major innovation in terms of risk management in sensitive areas, such as healthcare centers and the food industry. This coating is easy to clean thanks to its smooth surface and its chemical resistance. Maintaining the low surface germ concentrations between two cleanings will provide additional protection to assist hygienic practices.

The use of Rilsan® Active coatings for piping systems is a practical response to the necessity of maximum prevention of the risk from bacteria contamination. Its smooth aspect, low porosity index, excellent protection against corrosion and its new property of limiting the surface growth of bacteria will limit the formation of biofilm.
