Clearstrength® MBS Impact Modifiers

Description

MBS Impact Modifiers are basically core/shell copolymers of Methyl methacrylate, Butadiene and Styrene. Primary core shell particles are usually composed of a cross-linked elastomeric core (providing efficient impact resistance thanks to Butadiene’s elastomeric characteristics), and a thermoplastic shell (which plays an important role in the mechanical, optical and powder properties).

MBS Impact Modifiers are produced by emulsion polymerization and primary particle size varies from 0.1 to 0.35 µm.
MBS core shell impact modifiers can be used in materials like PVC and some engineering polymers.

Properties

  • Clearstrength® C series ranges from very transparent, non-crease whitening grades for clear PVC to high impact performance grades for opaque PVC
  • Clearstrength®  W series is a weatherable acrylic impact modifier for transparent PVC
  • Clearstrength® E series is a MBS type impact modifier designed for engineering plastics

Markets and applications

MBS can be used in all applications where PVC demands a high level of transparency and impact resistance. The main applications are calendered or extruded films and sheets, blown bottles, pipes, etc.

Production Facilities

  • Vlissingen (Netherlands)
