Altuglas International has extended its range of speciality PMMA grades in developing Altuglas VML®, an acrylic resin designed specially for moulding high thickness, transparent objects where exceptional purity is required.
For these very heavy or large components, the processor generally has to cope with several shaping problems. At high temperatures, parts are easily moulded, but cycle times (cooling times) are long and components tend to be yellowish in colour (a thermal stability problem). At low temperatures, cycle times are very good, but friction in the injection press is high, spoiling the appearance. Moreover, using standard lubricants to reduce friction changes the transparency of the parts considerably.
The unique, patented formula of Altuglas® VML provides an efficient solution to such moulding problems. This grade can be processed at low temperatures (180°C - 220°C), making exceptional optical properties possible along with excellent cycle times.
Altuglas® VML is already well known to many involved in plastics processing, particularly in the cosmetics packaging or furnishings markets, which have stringent requirements regarding appearance, size and productivity.
