Innovation from developing renewable raw materials
Arkema’s R&D teams are exploring a number of avenues with the aim of increasing the use of renewable raw materials.
The recycling of glycerol (by-product of biodiesel manufacture) for which the economic environment will change completely as it becomes widely available from future biofuel plants. Arkema has already registered a number of patents relating to reactions using glycerol as raw material.
The development of new copolymers using diacids or dialcohols derived from vegetable products, e.g. technical copolymers such as Pebax®.
The use of agricultural ethanol, in particular for the manufacture of carbon nanotubes, replacing ethylene of petrochemical origin.
The development of solvents of agricultural origin in formulations combining the performance of traditional solvents with the environmental characteristics of "green" solvents for industrial degreasing and cleaning.
