Description

Methane Sulfonyl Chloride is a versatile, responsive, mesyl group (CH3SO2 ) chemical for substitution in a number of reactions.
Methane Sulfonyl Chloride, an acid chloride, undergoes reactions typical of this class of compounds, such as replacement of hydroxyl, amino and active alpha hydrogen, hydrolysis etc.

 

Properties

Methane Sulfonyl Chloride is a lachrymatory product and very toxic by inhalation. When hydrolyzed it produces Methane Sulfonyl Acid and Hydrochloric Acid.

 

Markets and applications

Methane Sulfonyl Chloride applications include: 

  • Agrochemical and pharmaceutical intermediate 
  • Stabilizer, catalyst curing and chlorinating agent
  • Intermediate in photographic chemicals.
