RilsanĀ® HT: A New High Temperature Polyamide to Replace Metal

Rilsan® HT is a completely new class amongst PPA polymers 

 

Arkema has developed an entirely new polyphtalamide (PPA)-based high-temperature material of vegetable origin, Rilsan® HT, which extends metal substitution to yet unimagined possibilities for automotive powertrain and other demanding industrial applications. The Rilsan® HT range is the first complete polyphtalamide (PPA)-based product line suitable for all kinds of process technologies, ranging from extrusion to blow or injection molding.

 

  • Rilsan®HT for flexible tubing – The first flexible PPA

The revolutionary flexibility of Rilsan® HT offers a step-change in PPA-based materials, creating opportunities to replace metal in tubing for severe engine-compartment service and other demanding industrial applications that were previously unthinkable. Rilsan® HT can be economically processed on standard extrusion equipment, easily thermoformed and assembled, lowering the overall system cost by up to 50% compared with metal tubing assemblies. In addition this new PPA offers many other benefits compared to classical PPA-based resins: long-term resistance to thermo-oxidative and chemical aging, very low moisture uptake, high dimensional stability, low tendency to creep as well as unprecedented freedom of design.

 

  • Rilsan® HT for injection

Compared to classical PPA-based injection resins which are rather difficult and costly to process, Rilsan® HT injection grades have been specifically designed for easy and cost-efficient manufacturing. Rilsan® HT is the only PPA-based injection resin that offers processing characteristics similar to those of aliphatic high-performance polyamides. It can be easily processed on standard injection-molding equipment using conventional water-cooled temperature control and in injection molds designed for PA12 and PA11. In addition Rilsan® HT offers a wide range of additional benefits compared to classical PPA-based injection resins: excellent dimensional stability, exceptional ductility, and conductivity. Furthermore Rilsan® HT can be easily spin-welded with aliphatic high-performance polyamides, a complete new feature for this material group.
