C11

Description

The C11 molecule has the rare peculiarity of being both long and bifunctional (presence of an acid function and a terminal double bond at the other end of the chain).
This combination of unique properties makes undecylenic acid a highly interesting molecule which can be used on its own or as a chemical intermediate for the design of tailor-made products adapted to a variety of different needs.

The derivatives of C11 acid (undecylenic acid) are also widely used for their bactericidal properties. Incidentally, this acid is found also in trace quantities in sweat and tears. It is a natural fungicide, which is effective and well tolerated. It can be used in soaps, shampoos, talcum powders and other body hygiene products.
The aldehyde from the C11 chain is included in several perfumes.
The amino-undecanoic acid 11 is obtained by aminating the C11 acid: this is the Rilsan® monomer.
