OXPEKK®, a polymer of extremes

As part of its strategy to expand into ultra high performance materials, Arkema acquired Oxford Performance Materials (OPM) early in 2009. OPM is a global supplier of poly ether ketone ketone (PEKK) products marketed under its proprietary OXPEKK® brand.

OXPEKK® products offer unparalleled properties, including extreme temperature resistance, ultra high purity, highest mechanical properties and superior processability. In addition to these inherent properties OXPEKK® is fully biocompatible, flame retardant and extremely wear resistant. As a result of this unique combination of properties OXPEKK® has been globally accepted in the following markets.

Markets and Applications

  • Aerospace: metal replacement (comparable to aluminum at half the weight).
  • Long-term medical implants: properties comparable to bone, ideal substitute for metallic implants, fully biocompatible. Currently used in spinal, orthopedic, dental and general medical applications.
  • Oil and gas extraction: all manner of components where materials are subject to high temperatures and severe pressure enabling extended system service intervals.
  • Electronics: high temperature connectors, insulating films, and conductive materials.
