Information on Food Contact Compliance
The composition of most of Lotryl® grades complies with requirements of European and American food contact regulations for their use in food contact:
- E.C. : Consolidated Directive 2002/72 and further amendments
- Belgium, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain
- BfR (ex. BgVV) Recommendations III (%BA < 20%) or XXXV (%BA > 20%)
However, we point out that it is the duty of the end user to check, in accordance with professional practice, the reciprocal compatibility of the material and the packed foodstuffs (respect of Overall and Specific Migration Limits) and also that organoleptic characteristics of the latter remain constant.
- FDA, 21CFR, §175.105 « Adhesives »
- FDA, 21CFR, §177.1340 « Ethylene methyl acrylate copolymer resins »
EMA copolymers with Methyl acrylate contents below 25% may be used in direct contact provided that the finished food contact articles comply with the extractive limitations (FDA, 21CFR, §177.1340).
On the other hand, EMA and EBA copolymers conform to FDA, 21CFR, §175.105 and can be used as adhesives (indirect contact).
Customers have to verify themselves that their applications fit the requirements of FDA regulation, concerning Adhesives, i.e.:
- Food contact material is an effective functional barrier to the adhesive, under its intended conditions of use
- The quantity of adhesive that contacts food does not exceed the trace amounts at seams and edges.
Due to evolution of regulations or existing specific restrictions, it is necessary before any usage in food contact to request the related certificates from our commercial representatives.
