ForaneĀ® 507 Refrigerant
|
Technical Specifications:
Forane® 507 properties
Forane® 507 is a zero ozone depletion potential (ODP), azeotropic blend of HFC refrigerants R-125 and R-143a. Forane® 507 is blended to closely match the properties of R-502, making it a good refrigerating fluid for some medium and most low temperature refrigeration applications.
New Systems
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Forane® 507 has been approved by most refrigeration compressor and system manufacturers for use in new refrigeration equipment. Applications where Forane® 507 would be used include food display and storage cases, cold storage rooms, transportation and process refrigeration.
Retrofit
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Forane® 507 can also be used as a retrofit refrigerant for many existing R-502 systems, although R-408A is recommended as a better near drop-in retrofit for R-502 (See Retrofit Section).
Considerations for Using Azeotropic Blends
Forane® 507 is classified as an Azeotropic blend. Azeotropic blends are those refrigerant mixtures which behave as a single component refrigerant even though they are a blend. Users may charge Forane® 507 the same as any single component refrigerant using either vapor or liquid to charge the system. Leaks are also not a problem with Forane® 507. If there is a leak in a Forane 507 system, simply fix the leak and top off the charge using either vapor or liquid.
Use of Forane® 507 in New Refrigeration Systems
Performance
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For new installations, most compressor and system manufacturers have sized equipment which will meet the performance and capacity of Forane® 507.
Lubrication
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
R-507 requires Polyolester (POE) lubricant to ensure complete miscibility between oil and refrigerant. Miscibility is important for oil return to the compressor, especially in larger systems with long runs of piping. Typically, manufacturers supply equipment already charged with the proper lubricant or provide specific recommendations on the type of lubricant to be installed in the field.
Material Compatibility
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
New systems are constructed with materials which are compatible with R-507. Most new driers, sight glasses and system components should be rated for new HFC refrigerants.
