Paints & Coatings
|
Acrylic surface coatings are the leading finishes used in the paint and coatings industry. They are based on (meth)acrylic polymers or copolymers and can be applied in organic solventborne, waterborne, powder or radiation-curable formulations.
When it comes to Paints and Coatings, MMA is largely used as the main “hard“ monomer, while Norsocryl® BA and 2EHA are used as soft monomers. MMA, BA, and 2EHA can be used to manufacture pure acrylic, styrene-acrylic and vinyl acrylic aqueous dispersions for paints and coatings.
Norsocryl® 102, Norsocryl® 103 and Norsocryl® 104, ureido monomers in the range of Arkema specialty monomers, are used to improvise wet adhesion properties to water borne dispersions. When used to create wet adhesive properties, N102 and N104 obtain as good adhesion properties and resistance as for solvent paints in wet conditions.
Norsocryl® BA and 2EHA, in addition to standard methacrylates like MMA, nBMA, IBMA or EMA are the main monomers used to produce solvent-borne acrylic resins used as industrial coatings.
Norsocryl® TBAEMA also has applications in isocyanate coatings by avoiding the use of tin catalyst in the first case and enabling crosslinking reactions in the second case.
