Arkema and Toyobo to Start Alliance on High Temperature Biobased Polyamides

04/28/2010    Press Release

Arkema and Toyobo have decided to form a strategic partnership to develop high temperature polyamides made from renewable resources. Under this collaboration, Arkema and Toyobo will promote a new generation of high temperature polyamides with improved technical properties and lower environmental footprint.

The new products initially consist of two ranges with melting points around 250°C and 315°C, with a very low moisture pick up and a bioba sed content up to 70%. Their unique properties make them particularly suitable for highly technical metal replacement applications in consumer electronics and automotive applications, when high temperature resistance and dimensional stability are requested and where plastics could not be used before.

Toyobo is a Japanese leading producer of specialty polyamides, film and fibers with a unique know-how in injection molding applications and metal replacement.

Arkema is the world leader of biobased polyamides and biobased monomers for polyamides. Arkema recently launched Rilsan® HT, the only flexible HTPA to replace metal and save costs in highly technical automotive applications.

With global brands like Rilsan® and Pebax®, unique bioplastics like Rilsan® Polyamide 11 and Pebax® RNew, and leading capacities in Rilsan® polyamide 11 and 12, Arkema's Technical Polymers stands out in the industry by providing its customers with global coverage and superior regional service from production facilities and research centers in Europe, Asia and the USA.

A global chemical company and France's leading chemicals producer, Arkema consists of three businesses: Vinyl Products, Industrial Chemicals, and Performance Products. Arkema reported sales of 4.4 billion euros in 2009. Arkema has 13,800 employees in over 40 countries and seven research centers located in France, the United States and Japan. With internationally recognized brands, Arkema holds leadership positions in its principal markets.
