Decision from the European Commission regarding anti-trust practices in the heat stabilizer market

Arkema notes the European Commission’s decision relating to past anti-trust practices in the heat stabilizer* market, and confirms that this fine will have no impact on its results.

The European Commission issued a total fine of 28.6 million euros to Arkema France and its former parent company Elf Aquitaine for past anti-trust practices in the heat stabilizer market prior to 2000. In application of the warranty agreed with Total at the time of the spin-off, Arkema will bear 10% of the total amount, i.e. 2.9 million euros. Moreover, this fine will have no impact on Arkema’s results bearing in mind the provisions already booked. Once Arkema receives the full decision, it may consider whether to lodge an appeal with the European Court of First Instance.

* Heat stabilizers are additives used to improve a polymer’s resistance to heat.
