Research & Development

Innovation is the engine of Arkema’s growth strategy. R&D’s many professional specialties all share one goal—making us a leader in the chemical industry of the future. Arkema has six research centers: four in France, one in Japan and one in the United States. It employs 1,400 researchers and allocated 3.3% of its revenue to research in 2005.

The entire gamut of R&D activities can be found at Arkema, from basic research to industrial applications and laboratory experiments.

R&D’s primary responsibilities range from supervising international teams of researchers to coordinating research in synergy with operational needs.

R&D is also responsible for conventional process and product applications research. Analytical research engineers provide support by conducting environmental impact assessments.

Another key to success is the support of scientific documentation and information teams, who keep researchers informed and supply them with the analyses and document summaries they need.

Working with intellectual property engineers, scientific documentalists find ways to apply research innovations by protecting findings.
