2003 Survey: the perceived industrial risk in europe
|
In 2003, a similar survey to the 2002 opinion poll was conducted around European sites ( Germany , Italy , Spain , Belgium ).
Methodology
This survey conducted in December 2003 involved samples of 100 and 250 people living near 12 industrial facilities. The size of the sample was based on the size of the facility.
The main findings
The survey revealed a major sensitivity to industrial risk in each of these countries. It also showed marked differences in this sensitivity from country to country:
-
The climate is most relaxed in Germany: the overriding sentiment is that the risk is well under control; industry enjoys a fairly high level of trust, as do institutional stakeholders;
-
Italy and Spain both have a relatively similar climate which might be qualified as distrustful of industrial and institutional players.
