Description
Forane® 123 is a single-component refrigerant with properties similar to R-11, including boiling point and vapor pressure, and has one of the lowest OPD values of all HCFCs. Most new low-pressure centrifugal chillers are designed to use Forane® 123, indicating new chillers should provide operating conditions and performance close to those seen with R-11. However, new equipment must take into consideration the differences in properties to optimize the performance of Forane® 123.
A high performance, low global warming potential (GWP) blowing agent for most PUR applications, including appliance, pour in-place, and spray foams.
Forane® 134a (R-134a) is a non-ozone depleting HFC with properties very similar to R-12. It can be used both as a pure refrigerant and as a component in refrigerant blends. For refrigeration, applications include automotive air conditioning, chillers, medium temperature commercial refrigeration, refrigeration appliances, and transport refrigeration. Forane® 134a can be used for spray blowing agents, refrigerator and freezer foam applications, and panels for walk-in freezers.
Forane® 141b is ideal for spray since it is a liquid at atmospheric conditions and has low vapor thermal conductivity, which allow the production of easy to process polyurethane chemicals and the production of polyurethane foam with excellent physical properties. The low vapor thermal conductivity of Forane 141b makes it ideal for the appliance market. Forane® 141b is an ideal blowing agent for polyurethane core metal-faced panels used for construction.
Forane® 142b is used as a blowing agent for extruded polystyrene foam. Due to its low diffusion coefficient, Forane® 142b is retained in the extruded polystyrene foam for a long time. Therefore, extruded polystyrene foam made with Forane® 142b exhibits good long-term thermal insulation value, and dimensional stability. Forane® 142b can also be used as part of 142b/22 (60 wt/40 wt) blend for both extruded polystyrene foam and urethane foam applications. The blend is non-flammable.
Forane® 22 is gaseous at atmospheric conditions. Forane® 22 has a low thermal conductivity and has good solubility in polyurethane chemicals. The high solubility in polyurethane chemicals allows for high loading levels in B-side blends while allowing these blends to be stored and transported in standard drums and processed using standard equipment. A high level of Forane® 22 can be used in b-side blends in pressurized containers. The Forane® 22 has a low ODP of 0.055 and is nonflammable. Foams produced with Forane® 22 have very good properties in comparison to Forane® 141b.
Forane® 22 refrigerant (R-22), an HCFC, has properties providing for a broad range of applications, including residential and commercial air conditioning, refrigeration, chillers, room air conditioning, transport refrigeration, and other comfort cooling and refrigeration applications. R-22 is going through a mandatory phase out, scheduled according to the Montreal Protocol. End-users should consult their local wholesaler or refrigerant manufacturer for more information on the R-22 phase-out.
As third generation hydrofluorocarbons, Forane® 365mfc/227ea blends (87/13 and 93/7) are the ideal replacements for R-141b for rigid foam blowing agent needs. Forane® 365mfc/227ea blends have zero ozone depletion potential and boiling point similar to HCFC 141b, thus they can be handled as a true liquid at room temperature. While the straight Forane® 365mfc has a flash point, Arkema offers two different blends that have no flash point and are not subject to flammable liquid regulation.
Forane® 365mfc, 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluorobutane is a liquid, SNAP approved HFC solvent available for use as component in solvent blends to replace HCFC-141b in precision cleaning, electronics cleaning, and carrier applications. It is also SNAP approved for rigid polyurethane panels, excluding spray foam. Forane® 404A (R-404A) is a non-ozone depleting, near azeotropic blend of HFC refrigerants R-125, R-143a, and R-134a and is formulated to match the properties of R-502, making it useful for a variety of medium and low temperature refrigeration applications. R-404A has been approved by many refrigeration compressor and system manufacturers for use in new refrigeration equipment, such as food display and storage cases, cold storage rooms, ice machines, transportation, and process refrigeration.
Forane® 407A (R-407A) is a non-ozone depleting, zeotropic blend of HFC refrigerants R-32, R-125, and R-134a. In Europe, R-407A is a low-GWP refrigerant designed for the replacement of R-404A and R-507A (retrofit and new equipment) in medium and low temperature refrigeration. Common applications include supermarket refrigeration, refrigerated transports, and food processing. In America, R-407A is an R-22 retrofit for medium and low temperature refrigeration systems and is not intended for air-conditioning applications, nor recommended for use in systems with flooded evaporators. Overall system capacities and efficiencies of an R-407A retrofit will be similar to those of R-22 for the US.
Forane® 407C (R-407C) is a non-ozone depleting, zeotropic blend of HFC refrigerants R-32, R-125 and R-134a and has been formulated to match the properties of R-22. Applications include residential and commercial air conditioning systems, non-flooded evaporator chillers, and some commercial refrigeration systems. Since R-407C has similar properties to R-22, it is possible (with modifications) to use it in the same equipment designed for R-22 today.
Forane® 408A refrigerant (R-408A) is a low-ozone depleting, near-azeotropic HCFC blend of R-22, R-125, and R-143a that was designed to match the performance of R-502 and is a retrofit solution for medium and low temperature refrigeration systems that are currently using R-502. R-408A should not be mixed with R-502 or used to top off the charge of an existing system operating on R-502. R-408A is not intended for use in new equipment.
Forane® 409A (R-409A or FX-56) is a low ozone depleting blend of HCFC refrigerants R-22, R-124, and R-142b. R-409A is formulated to resemble the properties of R-12. Applications include many medium temperature refrigeration systems, vending machines, refrigerators, positive displacement chillers, humidifiers, and other systems using R-12 or R-500. R-409A has properties and performance similar to R-12 and R-500.
Forane® 410A refrigerant (R-410A) is a non-ozone depleting blend of hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) R-32 and R-125 developed as a replacement refrigerant for air conditioning applications currently designed for (HCFC) R-22. Due to the higher refrigerating capacity and pressures of R-410A, it should not be used as a retrofit refrigerant in R-22 equipment. Forane® 410A refrigerant is used in new residential and commercial air conditioning systems, heat pumps, dehumidifiers and small chillers.
Forane® 427A is a simplified and cost-effective retrofit solution for existing R-22 installations in a large range of applications. Forane® 427A is the closest match to R-22 in terms of performances, mass flow rates, and operating pressures over the whole range of temperatures and has one of the lowest GWP among R-22 retrofit solutions. Due to its similar behavior in operation and its close thermodynamic properties in comparison to R-22, Forane® 427A is the only retrofit that can be used in equipment designed for R-22 without requiring any changes to the installation (no need to change the expansion valves, liquid lines, condensing units or any other costly parts of your system).
Forane® 427A (R-427A) is a non-ozone depleting blend of HFC refrigerants R-32, R-125, R-143a, and R-134a and was developed as a retrofit refrigerant for many R-22 applications, including low and medium temperature refrigeration and air conditioning systems. R-427A has comparable capacity to R-22 and better efficiency than most other R-22 replacements and was developed to minimize the work necessary during an R-22 system retrofit.
Forane® 507A (R-507A) is a non-ozone depleting, azeotropic blend of HFC refrigerants R-125 and R-143a. R-507 is blended to match the properties of R-502, making it a good refrigerant for some medium and most low temperature refrigeration applications. R-507A is approved by compressor and system manufacturers for use in new refrigeration equipment such as food display and storage cases, cold storage rooms, transportation and process refrigeration.
Transcend® additive technology offers a unique approach to improving next-generation foam technologies - it goes beyond a single performance enhancement. The Transcend® technology, based on trans-1, 2-dichloroethylene (Trans-1,2-DCE), can be added to HFC foam formulations to create unique foam products. Transcend® technology delivers improved solubility of blowing agents and polyols as well as reduced viscosity, thus improving the flow characteristics of many foam formulations.
