Arkema, a world leader in materials for coatings and paints, has a multi-technology and multi-product offering, unique in the coatings and paints industrial market. The Coating Resins business of Arkema has expanded acrylic resin manufacturing capacity in Araçariguama, Brazil by 60 percent. The new reactor will enable manufacturing of Arkema’s product chemistries previously unavailable in the region.

Arkema has developed Orevac® 18341, a new maleated polyethylene for the production of halogen-free flame retardant (HFFR) compounds used in cable applications. Orevac® 18341 is especially useful in improving water ageing resistance.
Arkema is actively developing its new Kepstan® PEKK (Poly-Ether-Ketone-Ketone) ultra high performance polymer with applications in the fields of carbon fiber composites and 3D printing. Success in these fields has prompted Arkema to increase its production capacities in France now and in the United States in the near future.
Composite solutions for lighter materials represent one of Arkema’s key research areas. The Group recently launched a number of innovations for the aerospace, automotive, yachting and wind power sectors.
Arkema reinforces its organic peroxide operations with the acquisition of Italian company Oxido, a European player in the formulation of organic peroxides used primarily in synthetic rubber crosslinking.
To expand its current offer to the composites industry, Arkema is launching the Polystrand® range of products in Europe, featuring a full range of glass-reinforced thermoplastic tapes and prepregs. These high performance materials are giving access to lightweight, recyclable and structural composites, for the automotive, transportation, energy, consumer and construction markets.
Arkema has a new grade of Kynar® PVDF resin that provides a whole new set of properties for PVDF. Kynar® UHM™ resin has a high flexural modulus, heat deflection temperature, abrasion resistance, tensile strength, pressure capability and, at the same time, offers excellent creep resistance.
Arkema and Jurong Chemical announce today that they have concluded an agreement regarding the next steps of their cooperation in Acrylics in China. This agreement extends, until January 2016, the period for Arkema to exercise its call option to access a total of 320,000 t/year acrylic acid production capacity.

Effective 3 February 2015, Bernard Pinatel, currently CEO of Bostik, is being appointed a member of Arkema’s Executive Committee. He will succeed Pierre Chanoine who is retiring. Meanwhile, the structure of Arkema’s business segments is changing in the wake of the acquisition of Bostik.
Arkema finalized the acquisition of Bostik, the world’s no. 3 in adhesives, on 2 February. With this acquisition, the Group reaches a new milestone in its development, and confirms its ambition to become a world leader in specialty chemicals and advanced materials. Bostik’s growth prospects and the complementarities identified between the two groups will sustain the success of this high value creating project.

A world leader in high performance polymers, Arkema offers a diverse range of materials for the manufacture of prototypes and functional technical short runs, using the laser sintering technology, the 3D printing/UV curing process, or molding for high-tech parts. Arkema will showcase its product range at the 20th edition of EuroMold, held in Frankfurt from November 25th to 27th. This is the opportunity for Arkema to position for the first time on medical applications, with its fine powders for laser sintering.
Arkema becomes the ninth member of the TfS initiative, founded in 2011 by BASF, Bayer, Evonik Industries, Henkel, Lanxess and Solvay. Lalou Roucayrol sails across the finish line in second position in the Multi50 class of the prestigious transatlantic solo race. On board the Arkema-Région Aquitaine trimaran and its on-board innovations, he has broken his own record in a Multi50 boat by almost 4 days.
Arkema boasts world-unique expertise in glass coatings for returnable bottles. The chemical Group is the only company to offer bottlers a glass protection technology, Kercoat®, which delays the onset of white marks and scuffing. It also offers a masking product, Opticoat®, to help conceal scratches. Kercoat® and Opticoat® complement each other and so considerably improve the appearance and service life of bottles. Arkema will present both solutions at the Brau tradeshow in Nüremberg from November 11 to 13 2014.
Arkema has finalized the first stage of its acrylics assets acquisition project in Taixing, China, and now has access to a modern and competitive 160,000 t/year acrylic acid production capacity in Asia for the sum of US$ 240 million. This investment will enable the Group to serve its customers in China and in Asia in growing markets such as superabsorbents, paints, adhesives and water treatment.
Arkema, a chemicals world major, CEA, a research public body in energy and technological innovation, and Arjowiggins Creative Papers, the world leader in technical paper, have set up the first European initiative to promote collaborative innovation in the field of printed electronics.
In order to guarantee flawless bottles to bottle manufacturers, Arkema developed major technological innovations in protective coatings, combined with an audit and training service, and a product certification that is unique in the profession. This comprehensive approach, Certin™ Advance, helps bottle manufacturers considerably improve the service they supply to their customers in the beverage industry.

Chillventa, the leading trade fair in the refrigeration, air-conditioning, ventilation and heat pump markets in Europe, is being held in Nuremberg from 14 to 16 October 2014. Arkema will be showcasing its refrigerant substitutes designed to address the definitive ban on recycled R-22 and other HCFCs (2nd generation refrigerant gases) at the end of 2014. Arkema will also be presenting its refrigerant solutions to help users adapt to the latest F-Gas regulation.

Arkema offers a comprehensive portfolio of technical polymers : the Group is the only chemical company in the world to offer the three families of long chain polyamides (polyamide 10, 11 and 12) and also PVDF fluoropolymers, adapted to all plastics technologies; injection moulding, extrusion technology or thermoforming. At Fakuma 2014, Arkema will display its latest innovations, espacially oriented for demanding industrial and automotive applications.
Arkema will participate at the Composites Europe fair in Düsseldorf, from October 7th to 9th, and at the CAMX Expo in Orlando, Florida, from October 14th to 16th. Arkema will showcase its new range of Elium®, the first thermoplastic resins that can be processed on the same equipment as thermoset resins. Several RTM live demos will be performed with the Patriot Thermoplastic Innovator injection machine from Magnum Venus Products (MVP), to demonstrate the ease of processing of this new technology.

The intermediate products of Arkema are used in many processes in the chemical industry: solvents, diluents, thickeners, reagents, synthesis intermediates, acid scavengers, neutralizing agents and reaction initiators. Its range of hydrazine derivatives, amines, oxygenated solvents and other synthetic intermediates based on sulphur chemistry (e.g. methane sulfonic acid, thioacetic acid) or fluorinated chemistry are indispensable. They are used not only in pharmaceutical but also in cosmetic applications.
As part of a plan to improve the profitability of its fluorogas business, on September 9th Arkema presented to the Zaramillo plant’s personnel representative bodies a project for the closure of fluorogas productions at its Spanish site.
The European fluorogas industry has been severely impacted for several years by a competitiveness gap with China and the United States. Hence the Zaramillo site is faced with this European environment as well as structural problems, which have prompted this proposed closure of the fluorogas productions.
As part of its procurement policy for strategic raw materials, Arkema has reached an agreement for the supply of propylene with Enterprise Products Partners L.P., a leading United States midstream Energy Company.

Arkema announces the start-up of its new plant for the production of methyl acrylate, an acrylic acid derivative used in the manufacture of polymers for water treatment, elastomers and engineering polymers. This investment, on its Clear Lake site in Texas, represents the last phase of a $110 M investment plan intended to strengthen Arkema’s rankings in the US acrylics market.

Arkema expands its Evasin® EVOH (ethylene vinyl alcohol) copolymers product range with two new grades containing 44% of ethylene. Arkema now offers a wide EVOH range with 29% to 44% ethylene content that can be used for most barrier film applications.
Round 7 of the worldwide superbike race will take place at Misano in Italy June 22nd 2014. Tom Sykes, the British world champion 2013 from the Kawasaki official team will be at the starting line. His superbike Kawasaki ZX 10 R is equipped with the new MRA windshield made of Altuglas® ShieldUp PMMA sheet.
Arkema has added Kynar® 740 E to its Kynar® PVDF polymer range developed for drinking water systems. This grade aptly combines mechanical strength with fluidity, making it perfectly suited to the extrusion process.
On May 21st in Paris, representatives of the French companies listed in the 2013 top 100 global innovators from Thomson Reuters received the prize from Basil Moftah, CEO Intellectual Property and Science of Thomson Reuters. Christian Collette, Vice President Research and Development received the award for Arkema, the only European chemistry company present in this classification
Thanks to its experience in impact modifiers for thermoplastics, Arkema recently developed Clearstrength®
E950, its new core-shell Methacrylate-Butadiene-Styrene (MBS) impact modifiers for engineering plastics, mainly polycarbonates (PC). Pre-launched at the end of 2013 at K2013, Clearstrength® E950 has been successfully used industrially by selected clients. Arkema today announces that this new MBS impact modifier for engineering plastics is now available commercially worldwide.
Arkema, a global chemical company, and Polymem, a French SME specializing in the manufacture of filtration modules from hollow fiber membranes, have jointly developed a new ultrafiltration hydrophilic membrane technology to produce high quality water over the long term.
During Arkema’s Combined Annual General Meeting held on May 15th 2014 and chaired by Thierry Le Hénaff, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Group, the shareholders, representing 63.19% of the voting rights, adopted by a very large majority all the resolutions approved by the Board of Directors.
CECA , Arkema’s Filtration and Adsorption subsidiary, and Saudi company Watan Industrial Investment have set up a joint venture, majority-owned by Arkema, which will operate an oilfield production chemicals blending plant and storage facility in Saudi Arabia. Based within the Dammam industrial city, the new site will enable CECA to meet the high demand for oilfield production chemicals in the Gulf region.

The new electrolysis unit at Arkema’s Jarrie plant near Grenoble, France, inaugurated today, marks a new milestone in the site’s modernisation. This €100 m investment has enabled the facility to adapt to the latest regulations on industrial risks (‘PPRT’) and to convert its mercury electrolysis to the membrane technology, thereby pre-empting the mandatory deadline by several years.
Some 6,000 employees and former employees have subscribed for 491,502 shares totalling €31.5 million as part of the capital increase operation reserved for Arkema employees, which has just closed. Setting yet another record in terms of amount invested and number of participants, this latest operation is a reflection of the employees’ confidence in their Group’s strategy and prospects.
