Arkema offers a diverse range of materials for the manufacture of prototypes and functional technical short runs, using “additive manufacturing”. Arkema will showcase its product range at the 20th edition of EuroMold, the global trade show for Moldmaking and Tooling, Design and Product Development, held in Frankfurt from December 3th to 6th.
A major player in the Coatings industry, Arkema is taking part in the Chinacoat 2013 trade show being held in Shanghai from November 20th to 22nd (Hall 4 - Stand D10-20) to showcase its multi-technology and multi-product range, one of the most comprehensive in the market. The trade fair will also be an opportunity for Arkema to celebrate with its customers the successful startup of its new polymer emulsion production plant on its Changshu site in China.

Arkema is participating in the Solar Qatar Summit held in Doha on November 18- 19 to present this high added value Arkema patented film technology based on three ultra-thin Kynar® PVDF layers.
Arkema has officially started its new 60,000 MTY emulsion polymers facility on its Changshu platform. The plant, part of Arkema’s Coating Resins business unit, will serve customers in the Asia Pacific region with a full line of waterborne emulsion polymers for coatings and adhesives applications.

From October 28 to 31 2013, Arkema will showcase most of its products - including specialty polyamides, fluoropolymers, functional polyolefins, plastic additives, organic peroxides, hydrogen peroxide, coating resins and fertilizer additives - at the biannual Chemistry Trade Show Khimia-2013 in Moscow, Russia, in booth 22D70.
Yusuke Ueda, Sumitomo Seika CEO, and Marc Schuller, Arkema Executive Vice President, have today inaugurated the new Sumitomo Seika superabsorbent plant on the Carling site (Moselle, France) in the presence of the local and regional authorities.
This major investment, made in partnership with Arkema, will enable Sumitomo Seika to meet increasing demand for superabsorbents in Europe.
Arkema, the world leader in specialty polyamides, and Addiplast, a French company specializing in the manufacture of specialty compounds, have signed an agreement whereby Arkema supplies its polyamides 10, 11 and 12 to Addiplast which will process them into technical compounds and materials. Thierry Le Hénaff, Arkema’s Chairman and CEO, inaugurated Arkema’s first R&D Center in China on Thursday October 17 on the Changshu industrial site in the presence of the Chinese authorities. Arkema, the world’s second largest producer of organic peroxides, and Saudi investment company Watan Industrial Investment have signed an agreement for the construction of an organic peroxide production site on the Al Jubail platform, Saudi Arabia. The facility, requiring an investment of about US$ 30 million, will be the very first organic peroxide plant in the Middle East region
Following a €50/MT price increase on August 1st 2013, Arkema announces a further €50/MT price increase effective early September for its entire Evatane® range (high content Ethylene Vinyl Acetate copolymers).
The result of over 5 years of research, Rilsan® HT is the first thermoplastic from the polyphthalamide (PPA) family available on the market to combine high temperature resistance with flexibility. These characteristics make it aptly suited to replace metal and rubber in under-the-hood tubing applications. Six times lighter than steel and three times lighter than aluminium, it therefore helps reduce the weight of vehicles, their fuel consumption and their CO2 emissions. Additionally, this high performance polymer has a renewable carbon content of up to 70%. The Pierre Potier prize panel of judges were won over by this product’s many beneficial features, awarding it the top prize.
Arkema is showcasing one of the coating industry’s broadest technology and business offerings at ABRAFATI 2013, September 16-17-18, 2013 (stand 3-F-2). On display will be products spanning almost every aspect of coating formulation, including solutions for architectural and traffic coatings, as well as a full range of additives for waterborne coatings.

Arkema announces a comprehensive range of PEKK (Poly Ether Ketone Ketone) ultra high performance polymers comprised of three families of products whose properties meet the requirements of aerospace, oil exploration and electronics applications. The Fonds Stratégique de Participation (FSP), a mutual fund created by four major French insurance companies – BNP Paribas Cardif, CNP Assurances, Crédit Agricole Assurances through its subsidiary Predica and Sogécap (Groupe Société Générale) – in order to support long-term investments in listed companies, has announced that it now owns 6% of Arkema's share capital.
On June 9, 2013, Germany experienced the worst flooding in over ten years and declared the event a « national disaster ». Many facilities suffered extensive damage and thousands of people had to be evacuated.
Arkema is announcing a 15% debottlenecking of its bis-peroxide capacity in both its Spinetta (Italy) and Franklin (Virginia) factories. This new capacity will allow Arkema to respond immediately to strong demand in the synthetic rubber crosslinking industry, in particular in Asia, and to support recent developments in fast-growing markets.
Polymers have become key components of photovoltaic panels: their role is to help maintain high performances over time, a challenge taken up by Arkema thanks to three of its polymers: Kynar® PVDF used to protect electrical components in the panel’s backsheet, as well as EVA Evatane® and Apolhya® Solar used to encapsulate the cells. Arkema will be presenting this product range for panel manufacturers at the INTERSOLAR trade show in Munich from June 19 to 21 2013.
In line with previous announcements, Arkema has brought on stream additional acrylic acid capacity at its Clear Lake, Texas, site. A ramp-up period is planned to continue over the next few months associated with commercial qualification of newly manufactured products. This project will improve reliability and increase competitiveness of the Clear Lake plant and brings the site to a nameplate capacity of 270 KT per year.

Arkema and Jayant Agro have signed a joint venture agreement whereby Arkema will acquire a stake of some 25% in Ihsedu Agrochem, a subsidiary of Jayant Agro, specializing in the production of castor oil. This joint venture aims to develop castor oil production in order to provide Arkema with long-term secure and competitive access to this strategic raw material for the manufacture of its biosourced polyamides.

On March 27th 2013, the Lyon commercial court opened insolvency proceedings with continuation of activities for a six-month observation period against the company Kem One SAS.
As part of the financing of the observation period, Arkema points out that its contribution amounts to €68.7 million.
Arkema announces that it has acquired a majority stake in AEC Polymers, a French manufacturer of structural adhesives. AEC Polymers recently developed a range of methacrylate glues (SAF® range) based on an Arkema technology, which boast unrivalled mechanical properties. AEC Polymers will join the Group’s new products and new technologies incubator.
Altuglas International, a subsidiary of Arkema group launches its new generation of Altuglas® acrylic sheet optimised for LEDs (Light Emitting Diode). The formulation of the acrylic glass is optimized for a uniform and maximised light distribution associated with LEDs. The result: coloured acrylic sheet with high light transmission which reduce energy consumption and the number of LEDs used by up to 20% compared to a standard acrylic sheet. 14 standard colours are available and could also be offered in Corporate Identity Colours. The applications of this new generation of acrylic sheet vary from sign, signage to architecture and design (interior and exterior)

On the occasion of the JEC 2013 show, Arkema launches Altuglas® Composite, the first new thermoplastic resin which allows the manufacturing of composite parts on the same equipments and processes as thermoset composites. The resulting composite parts exhibit mechanical properties similar to those of thermoset parts, but their thermoplastic nature brings the added advantages of thermoformability and recyclability. Development in Europe of the new soil fumigant based on dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) is progressing: in December 2012, Arkema submitted an approval dossier for DMDS to the French Authorities, acting as Rapporteur Member State for the European procedure of Regulation (CE) 1107/2009 (concerning the placing of plant protection products on the market). The French Ministry of Agriculture have recently confirmed the admissibility of this application, a pre-requisite to the European assessment of the dossier by the Competent Authorities.
Arkema launches its new hydrophilic Pebax® MV1074 SA 01 MED polymer for medical applications at this week‘s MD&M West show in Anaheim, CA, and at the upcoming MedTech Europe in Stuttgart, Germany from 26-28 February 2013. Hydrophilic Pebax® MV1074 SA 01 MED polymer is suitable for use in minimally invasive devices that are exposed to bodily fluids for less than 30 days, such as surgical tubing. Pebax® MV1074 SA 01 MED polyether block amide copolymer is USP VI certified and offers excellent high moisture absorption properties for device components in wet environments, such as catheters.
Arkema will preview a new resin for the manufacture of fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composite parts at the 8th International Symposium of PPE (Pole de Plasturgie de l'Est) at Saint Avold (France) on February 6 and 7. The new resin allows large thermoplastic composite parts to be manufactured for the first time using the same equipment and processes as those used for thermoset composites, without the addition of styrene.
Arkema is committed to provide the highest quality material for the medical market; this is why almost 10 years ago Arkema began to introduce MED grades for some of its Specialty Polyamides products. An extensive range of MED grades is now available for its main product lines (Pebax® SA 01 MED, Rilsan® MED, Rilsamid® MED) that Arkema will sell exclusively in the medical devices market worldwide.
Arkema, a global chemical player, is an acknowledged leader in the development of nanomaterials thanks to two product groups developed by its R&D: the Graphistrength® range of carbon nanotubes, and the Nanostrength® range of acrylic block copolymers, developed from its BlocBuilder® radical polymerization technology, both of which impart greater mechanical strength and/or conductivity to thermoplastic and thermoset materials. Arkema announces a price increase of 5 to 10% for its Luperox® products range (organic peroxides) dedicated to the cross linking market. The level of the increase depends on the product and will be implemented from February 1st 2013 as contracts and agreements allow.
Polymer Lithium Sulfur cells battery technology is considered to be the next generation of battery, complementary to Lithium-ion systems. It has the best performance record among all battery technologies to date. Compared to other batteries currently on the market, this technology displays double the energy density as well as perfect reliability and lower manufacturing and operating costs. OXIS Energy Limited, a company that specialises in the design, development and commercial production of these batteries, and Arkema, a global leading chemicals producer, have signed a Joint Development Agreement to further improve the performance of Polymer Lithium Sulfur cells battery.
For the eighth consecutive year, Arkema has rewarded the author of the best graduation project in the field of paper fibers, bioresource valorization, and improvement of environmental balance of paper processes, among 3rd year student engineers from the International School of Paper, Print Media and Biomaterials (Grenoble INP-Pagora engineering school).
