Arkema and Jayant Agro have signed a joint venture agreement whereby Arkema will acquire a stake of some 25% in Ihsedu Agrochem, a subsidiary of Jayant Agro, specializing in the production of castor oil. This joint venture aims to develop castor oil production in order to provide Arkema with long-term secure and competitive access to this strategic raw material for the manufacture of its biosourced polyamides.
A world leader in high performance polymers, Arkema offers a diverse range of fine powders for the manufacture of prototypes and functional technical short runs using the laser sintering technology. From 14 to 18th of April in Jacksonville (Florida - USA), Arkema will showcase its powders offer at the AMUG 2013 (Additive Manufacturing Users Group) conference which promotes the uses and applications of additive manufacturing technologies.
On March 27th 2013, the Lyon commercial court opened insolvency proceedings with continuation of activities for a six-month observation period against the company Kem One SAS.
As part of the financing of the observation period, Arkema points out that its contribution amounts to €68.7 million.
Arkema announces that it has acquired a majority stake in AEC Polymers, a French manufacturer of structural adhesives. AEC Polymers recently developed a range of methacrylate glues (SAF® range) based on an Arkema technology, which boast unrivalled mechanical properties. Altuglas International, a subsidiary of Arkema group launches its new generation of Altuglas® acrylic sheet optimised for LEDs (Light Emitting Diode). The formulation of the acrylic glass is optimized for a uniform and maximised light distribution associated with LEDs. The result: coloured acrylic sheet with high light transmission which reduce energy consumption and the number of LEDs used by up to 20% compared to a standard acrylic sheet. 14 standard colours are available and could also be offered in Corporate Identity Colours. The applications of this new generation of acrylic sheet vary from sign, signage to architecture and design (interior and exterior)

On the occasion of the JEC 2013 show, Arkema launches Altuglas® Composite, the first new thermoplastic resin which allows the manufacturing of composite parts on the same equipments and processes as thermoset composites. The resulting composite parts exhibit mechanical properties similar to those of thermoset parts, but their thermoplastic nature brings the added advantages of thermoformability and recyclability. Development in Europe of the new soil fumigant based on dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) is progressing: in December 2012, Arkema submitted an approval dossier for DMDS to the French Authorities, acting as Rapporteur Member State for the European procedure of Regulation (CE) 1107/2009 (concerning the placing of plant protection products on the market). The French Ministry of Agriculture have recently confirmed the admissibility of this application, a pre-requisite to the European assessment of the dossier by the Competent Authorities.
Arkema launches its new hydrophilic Pebax® MV1074 SA 01 MED polymer for medical applications at this week‘s MD&M West show in Anaheim, CA, and at the upcoming MedTech Europe in Stuttgart, Germany from 26-28 February 2013. Hydrophilic Pebax® MV1074 SA 01 MED polymer is suitable for use in minimally invasive devices that are exposed to bodily fluids for less than 30 days, such as surgical tubing. Pebax® MV1074 SA 01 MED polyether block amide copolymer is USP VI certified and offers excellent high moisture absorption properties for device components in wet environments, such as catheters.
Arkema and Altuglas International are backing a particularly novel educational project conducted in partnership with the association « Entreprendre pour Apprendre » [Learning by Doing]. The objective of the association, a member of European network JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT - YOUNG ENTERPRISE (JA-YE), is to put 14 to 25 year old students in situations of setting up mini-businesses.
Arkema will preview a new resin for the manufacture of fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composite parts at the 8th International Symposium of PPE (Pole de Plasturgie de l'Est) at Saint Avold (France) on February 6 and 7. The new resin allows large thermoplastic composite parts to be manufactured for the first time using the same equipment and processes as those used for thermoset composites, without the addition of styrene.

Arkema announces a price increase of 5 to 10% for its Luperox® products range (organic peroxides) dedicated to the cross linking market. The level of the increase depends on the product and will be implemented from February 1st 2013 as contracts and agreements allow.
Polymer Lithium Sulfur cells battery technology is considered to be the next generation of battery, complementary to Lithium-ion systems. It has the best performance record among all battery technologies to date. To meet the needs of municipalities seeking stronger pipes, Arkema has developed a Kynar® ADX resin technology available for bonding Kynar® polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) to polyolefin resins in potable water piping. Kynar® ADX allows manufacturers to produce very tough multilayer pipes which utilize the excellent barrier properties of Kynar® PVDF bonded to other polymer structures. 150 km of this multilayer piping have already been installed by water companies in France to the full satisfaction of end-users and municipalities.

This 14th edition will gather in Nice from October 24th to 26th international suppliers and related stakeholders to meet and discuss the latest in energy storage technology for vehicle electrification and electronic devices. Of special interest will be Arkema’s binder for lithium-ion batteries, Kynar® HSV 900 PVDF, a high molecular weight resin that provides improved adhesion with reduced loading in electrode constructions. This grade enhances the performance of both phosphates and metal oxides.
Arkema is now offering Kynar® 3312C, an innovative and flexible conductive PVDF grade for use in applications where flammable liquids are handled, mainly in automotive and chemical applications. This new grade limits the generation of electrostatic discharge, and offers improved flexibility for sophisticated designs of fuel lines and chemical systems.

On October 5th , 2012, Arkema successfully completed the issue of an additional €250 million tranche to its original bond due April 30th 2020, increasing its size to an aggregate amount of €480 million.
Announced on July 16th this year, the project for the acquisition by the Arkema subsidiary Coatex of an acrylic additives and emulsions production site from Brazilian company Resicryl, was closed on October 1st 2012 as scheduled. This transaction fits perfectly with the Group's strategy to increase its presence in high-growth countries, particularly in Latin America, and strengthen its downstream integration of its acrylics activities.
On October 1st 2012 Arkema finalized the divestment of its tin stabilizer business announced in July 2012 to PMC Group, specialized in the manufacture of performance chemicals and plastics. This operation is fully in line with Arkema’s ambition to be a world leader in specialty chemicals and advanced materials and with the target, announced at the Investor day mid-September, to divest around 400 million euros of sales between 2012 and 2016.
Arkema, the world's largest producer of Thiochemicals (sulphur-based fine chemicals), introduces DMDS Evolution® E2, a Dimethyl Disulfide grade with an improved scent especially designed for the refinery and steam cracking applications.
Chillventa, from October 9th to 11th, held every two years, is the leading trade fair dedicated to Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning, Ventilation and Heat Pumps in Europe. Arkema will be exhibiting at Chillventa 2012 in Nuremberg with its full range of Forane® HFC (HydroFluoroCarbon) refrigerants, and will introduce Forane® 407A, a newcomer to the European Forane® range. At an Investor Day taking place today in Paris, Arkema presents its 2016 ambition to become a world leader in specialty chemicals and advanced materials. With a selective and profitable growth strategy, the Group targets sales of 8 billion euros and an EBITDA margin of 16% in 2016 while maintaining gearing below 40%. Beyond, the Group intends to maintain its pace of development and aims to achieve sales of 10 billion euros with an EBITDA margin close to 17% in 2020.Confident in its long term prospects, Arkema announces that its dividend per share will already show a significant step-up in 2012 and targets beyond a 30% payout ratio on adjusted net income.

Arkema has developed Kynar® 705 resin, a new high flow PVDF homopolymer grade, intended to be used in standard commercial spinning equipments to produce ultra-resistant textiles for water, chemical filtration and architectural applications.
Arkema has brought on stream, several weeks ahead of schedule, the 50% increase in its fluorinated polymer production capacity at its Changshu site announced early 2011. This new capacity will enable the Group to consolidate its leading position in this high added value product line which offers significant growth prospects. Arkema now has major production capabilities for Kynar® PVDF on the three continents of Europe, North America and Asia, and so will be able to accommodate the growth of its customers around the world.
Arkema has announced a project for the sale of its tin stabilizer business to PMC Group headquartered in Mount Laurel, NJ, a manufacturer of performance chemicals and plastics. With this proposed divestment of organometallic products, including Thermolite® tin stabilizers, Fascat® catalysts, and fine chemicals, Arkema continues to refocus its activities on fast growing core specialty businesses.
The world leader in PVDF fluoropolymer, an innovative and fast-growing (+7% p.a.) performance material, Arkema announces a major project for the development of its Kynar® PVDF business in Europe. Over €70M are to be invested into the Pierre-Bénite site in France, in particular to increase Kynar® PVDF production capacity by 50%, and so support customers in high-growth applications.
This year marks Arkema’s third participation in CIGRE (Comité International des Grands Réseaux Electriques) held at Palais des Congrès, Paris, from August 27 to 31. At this event Arkema will be presenting the findings of a scientific study recently conducted by the Electrical Energy & Power Systems Group of Manchester University which documents the outstanding performances of Jarylec® GA in transformers as a dielectric fluid that absorbs the gas produced by partial discharges.
Total, SOBEGI (a Total and GDF-SUEZ subsidiary) and Arkema today inaugurated the « Lacq Cluster Chimie 2030 » (LCC30) project in the presence of Messrs Lionel Beffre, Pyrénées Atlantiques Prefect, Alain Rousset, Conseil Régional d’Aquitaine President, Georges Labazée, Conseil général des Pyrénées-Atlantiques President, and David Habib, Mayor of Mourenx and MP, together with around one hundred local elected officials and industry representatives from the Lacq region. LCC30 represents the culmination of many years of studies conducted by the three partners in order to put forward an exemplary industrial redevelopment of the site and establish the economic activity and employment in the Lacq region over the long term. The three partners will be investing 154 million euros (M€) to transform the Lacq industrial platform into a pole of excellence in fine chemicals and specialty chemicals. This investment has the backing of the State and of local authorities.
Arkema and its subsidiary CECA are taking part in the 5th Eurasphalt & Eurobitume Congress in Istanbul from 13th to 15th June 2012. Arkema will present its functional polyolefin range used as modifiers in bitumen binders, while CECA, European leader in specialty bitumen additives, will exhibit its complete additives portfolio for the road industry.
